We are shifting from Blackboard to Canvas as our LMS. To expedite that shift and uplift, we are mixing it up a bit and managing the Pilot in Canvas with this course Transitioning your Blackboard course to Canvas at USC. That means CSALT staff become the teaching team and 'walk a mile in your shoes' as you participate as students. Be kind ;)

We feel conducting the Pilot in Canvas will give us all valuable insights into how it works for the different roles we play. The course is not designed to be an exemplar as we don't know enough yet, it is more an opportunity to learn by doing.

To simulate a teaching scenario, we have developed a mock Course Outline, to define our course learning outcomes, used the TELT Course Map Download TELT Course Map to structure the learning modules and content and referred to the TELT Checklist (Pilot version 4) Download TELT Checklist (Pilot version 4) to ensure we have all the essential components of a quality online course.

Without further ado, we encourage you to dive into our Getting Started section and familiarise yourselves with the course outline and the Learning Designer allocated to your school.

The course will grow and adapt as our proficiency in Canvas increases. We will release modules incrementally (just-in-time model) starting 24 May 2021 and experiment with as many relevant functions of Canvas as possible during the course. We encourage discussion and blue-sky thinking to really push the boundaries in Canvas and make sure we don't under-utilise it's potential.

Building this course has actually been a lot of fun and surprisingly rapid! We are excited and confident that with your collaboration, experiences and feedback this Pilot will produce a solid model for all other courses to transition from Blackboard to Canvas.

New to Canvas? Here is a navigation tip

The left-side navigation menu includes a Modules button, which acts as a launch pad to the Getting StartedMeet the LMS Project Team and Learning Designer Team pages, learning content, and other helpful Resources (including Canvas support).

If you are accessing this course from a mobile device, please review the following: Mobile Guides - Canvas Student. Links to an external site.

By the way - we have now applied the USC course template so the navigation 'look and feel' changed early June 2021.
